Feature Project
Chapel
Center
Fort Rucker, Alabama
Working for the US Army Corps of Engineers' Omaha District, The Clement Group, LLC is currently serving as the General Contractor along with Brasfield & Gorrie as a teaming contractor for the design/build of a $5.85 million, 22,600-gsf non-denominational Chapel located on the military base of Fort Rucker in Alabama. The Chapel broke ground in February, 2010 and is scheduled to be completed within 10 months.
The overall theme of the Chapel Center is complementary to the surrounding buildings through the use of similar materials, colors, and textures. An architecturally defined canopy adorns the entry welcoming every soldier. The design uses a contemporary styling with the ultimate goal being to create a place of great pride for the community of Fort Rucker.
The structure includes a pre-fabricated metal building. The exterior materials consist of a brick base, precast watertable cap, "hard coat" stucco system over metal stud framing, and a light colored metal standing seam roof.
A natural based palette for the interior features subtle organic patterns which creates a timeless, warm and inviting environment. Interior components include a 400-seat worship center, a 239-seat activity center that can be configured into separate or combined services, a kitchen, administrative offices, a nursery and classrooms.
The project is designed and will be built to comply with the latest Anti-terrorism/Force Protection (AT/FP) requirements and will achieve LEED Silver certification. The design partners for the project are Wakefield Beasley Associates, I.C. Thomasson Associates, and Gonzalez Strength.
